One night when I was looking for something to do in Hawaii, besides going to the beach, I observed some folks doing partner dancing. So I told myself, “I think I can do that since my dad and mom were ‘Jitterbug dancers’, so I told myself, dancing should be in my DNA.
So I joined Aliamanu Chapter (Hawaii Ballroom Dance Ass) HBDA, in 1996 and in 1997 I became the president of that chapter. Then after being responsible for the largest (Hawaii Ballroom Dance Ass’s) chapter membership, 60 folks, for one year, I was promoted from Junior Standing instructor, to the senior standing instructor until my transfer to Boston to accept a Psychosocial Veterans Affairs Fellowship for working with seriously ill homeless Veterans September 2006
During my time dancing I have participated in 3 solo performances and 8 group routines in American Social Ballroom dance.
As a former Domestic Violence Social Worker, I couldn’t ask for a better stress reliever than, ballroom dance.
